How It Works

Every week a new cartoon appears on ToonCap.

Your job is simple: write the funniest caption you can think of. Some captions will fall flat. Some will get a chuckle. One will rise to the top.

Here’s how it works.

1. A New Cartoon Appears

Each week we post a cartoon with no caption. It might be absurd, clever, or completely ridiculous. Your challenge is to write the line that makes people laugh.

2. Submit Your Caption

If inspiration strikes, submit your caption to the contest. You can enter as many captions as you like, but each submission counts as its own entry. Once submitted, your caption joins the pool of contenders for that week’s cartoon.

3. Vote on Captions

After entering, you’ll be shown captions from other participants. Readers rate each caption using three simple choices: Bad, OK, or Funny. These votes help determine which captions rise to the top.

4. The Rankings Take Shape

Captions are ranked using a weighted score based on reader votes. Funny captions climb. Weak ones sink. As more votes come in, the leaderboard naturally sorts out the strongest jokes.

5. The Winner Emerges

At the close of each contest, the caption with the highest public ranking advances as the official public pick. This selection reflects the collective judgment of the audience based on overall engagement and response.  From there, a panel of judges reviews the top captions independently and selects a final winner. The judging process considers originality, timing, and how effectively it made you laugh.  The chosen caption is featured in the ToonCap archive and added to a growing collection of standout entries.

6. A New Contest Begins

Then we do it all again with a new cartoon. Every week brings a fresh challenge and another chance to land the winning caption.
